The Begining Process of Filmmaking
I must say that digital filmmaking had opened up many
opportunities and possibilities for filmmakers. That is why if you are
interested in entering film industry, you should have a broad understanding of
how technology has changed and affected the way movies are made. From big
movies with big budgets down to indie films with small budget, technology
really changed and made an impact to the way these movies are produced.
For me, the word digital filmmaking can be referred to
numerous techniques and processes used in digital modern films. It can simply
mean that modern filmmakers can now use digital cameras and can create digital
aspects like environments and characters with the help of a computer. I also
believed that digital cameras are great help in reducing the costs of
filmmaking because expensive film are being replaced by the so called digital
storage process that are safer, cost efficient and can last for a longer period
of time.
Film can also degrade as time goes by; the celluloid that
classic films printed upon will decompose and turn to a gelatinous material
after a very long period of time. That destroys the film’s print. For me, with
the help of digital films it is now easier and simple to add more special effects
and film editing an easy task to do.
Here are the basic digital filmmaking preproduction process:
·
Step #1. Film concept
. This is the foundation of
the whole film and through conceptualization I can form the right script for
the movie. When I am conceptualizing a film I always carry a notebook and a pen
with me because I have no idea as to when a good concept will pop up on my
mind. If I will not carry those things, big chance for me to forget that
particular idea, right? So I write down immediately those ideas.
·
Step #2. Script writing.
Once I have the right
idea for the film that is the time I am starting to write the script. Even
though there are times I find it so hard to write because there are new ideas
coming into my mind. That being said, what I am doing every time a new idea is
popping out I write down all of it and then after that I begin again with the first step and
then that’s it. I write down a very good script.
·
Step #3. Drawing storyboards.
The drawing needs
to be large and I don’t worry if I can’t draw that well, the important thing is
that all the film staff understand the content of the storyboard. These are
rough sketches being use to express my vision about the film to film’s staff.
·
Step #4 Film Funding.
Once I finish my script
and my storyboard, I’ll send them now to different companies for the hope that
they will finance the film, allowing me to hire people and equipments for the
film.
·
Step #5. Finding the right cast and crew.
It is
very important for a film to have the right casting and the right crew as well
to execute all the details of the films. It is very hard to find the right
actor to do a certain film. That’s why I keep on researching and opening
auditions for interested parties.
·
Step#6. Location scouting.
To find the right
location, I keep on travelling and exploring all possible location for the
film.
·
Step#7. Shooting script.
This contains all the
sequence of the film. It also contains drawings and technical notes.
·
Step#8. Schedule organizing.
It helps to control
everyday shooting.
·
Step#9. Distributing and writing call sheets.
This contains the call time of all the actors and the time they should arrive
for the make- up.
·
Step#10.
Filming equipment.
I am into equipments that could highly give a best result to
the film.
